All of us continue to experience major issues with the Chat Room. Specifically they are:

l. Lag times -- Lag times are increasing and it makes no difference now as to the number of ppl in the Chat Room. The lags impact all of the rooms and PM's. Is there something that can be done about this? It is very frustrating to be involved in any dialog and have to wait up to 2 minutes to see a response.

2. Booted -- People are booted from this site all the time. I am booted everytime I accept a picture. Most others are just booted. This didn't seem to be a problem until the hacker showed up. Please let us know if this can be fixed. Personally, I don't get booted on any other site.

3. Loading Time -- Many times it takes quite a while to switch to or load a new screen in PM Inbox, Forums threads, stories, etc. Why is this? There doesn't appear to be a pattern to it at all.

Ok, a few points on this.

1. Repeated posting of chat issues in the forums will not get them fixed.
2. The chat function was purchased as a separate software thing and therefore does not run like the rest of the site. It DOES have issues, including but not limited to lack of functionality with specific browsers.
3. On that note, a few tips: a. download mozilla firefox if you haven't already. It works far better than IE. b. if you're using AOL to browse, you're out of luck.
4. This chatbox is the best we can do for now until the undisclosed future date of replacement. It's in the works, but I have no idea when it will be.
5. As much as I hate to bring this up, this IS a free site. We're lucky to have a chat room at all, and we're lucky not to have to use the old chat room that used to be on the site. However, I am getting to the point where I may request that one be brought back. Or that the chat be removed altogether. I appreciate that you guys love this site. I do too. And I do my absolute best to run it well. But I've repeatedly defended this silly chat room more times than I can count and have tired of it. THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO AT THE PRESENT MOMENT TO FIX THE CHAT. It is what we have. If you want to chat on this website it is the best we can do for now. Happy Monday everybody.

Librarian, regardless of the issues, you're right. It's a free site. I and countless others enjoy it and wouldn't leave despite the boots, lol. And thank you. You have a tough job. But it's meaningful, and we appreciate your work.

I understand all you say LL , I just want to highlight something: I do have mozilla firefox (before u suggested) and still have the same problem as the others. And I still keep coming back

I've found that using mozilla helps alot, however the chat's lag and such doesnt worry me when the chat is the only thing i have open. yes this means no msn or yahoo mess.

Thanks, LL. I wasn't aware that there had been other posts on this issue. So I can see how it seemed like I was whinging there. But I do appreciate the feedback and have a better understanding of what the problems are. Thanks for the information.

And I'm with everyone else here. You do a heck of a job running the site, keeping us informed and doing everything else you do. We appreciate you. Will be glad to write a letter to your boss too!!
