I was invited to a nice hotel bar by my friend Lucas to meet his new girlfriend and to catch up. As I walked into the nearly empty bar, I spotted them. Lucas smiled and gestured for me to join them at the bar. He introduced me to his new bird, Sarah, but she seemed uninterested. She got up to go to the bathroom soon after.
Lucas and I talked a bit. He asked about my recent breakup. It had happened about three weeks ago.
I just shrugged. "Besides wanting to kill myself, it's been okay."
"Don't say that. What happened though? Jill mentioned she was going to ask for you back, and then suddenly the two of you weren't talking."
I had met Jill through Lucas. Jill was the vice president of the advertising firm Lucas worked for. She and I ran into each other a couple of times at lesbian bars after meeting, became close friends, and finally began dating a year later.
I sighed. "She still had her key to my apartment. Last week, I was feeling really depressed about the breakup, so I went out to a bar and brought a girl home. I was fingering the girl on my couch when Jill walked in."
I grabbed Lucas's drink and took a swig.
"She didn't just burst in. She slowly walked into the room, staring at us," I continued. "The girl was facing the other way, but I was facing the doorway Jill was in. We just stared at each other while I was fingering this girl. Jill's face was emotionless. And then she just walked out, just as quietly as she came in. The girl didn't even notice. And then I asked the girl to leave like twenty minutes later. I thought Jill had left, but she came back to my apartment when she saw the girl leave. We fought for a bit. She was so angry. But she's seen me do that with other breakups, long before she and I got together. I go out and find comfort; that's what I do. She started calling me a whore and a sex addict. After a lot of screaming, I just told her to leave."
Lucas gulped down the rest of his drink. "Fuck," he said.
"Yeah," I said.
Suddenly, Lucas's phone starting ringing with a text. He picked up his phone.
"Damn it, Sarah wants to leave already. She's already waiting in the car."
I sneered. "Bitch. What kind of leash does she have you on?"
"None, that's what pisses her off."
"Well, I don't want you in the doghouse. Kiss me goodbye, you big pussy."
I've read this story three times through and each time I read it, I wonder if
I should leave a comment. It's been three days and I still haven't been able
to come up with one. But either way, I'd just like to let you know that I thoroughly
enjoyed your plot. Religion does seem to be more of a curse than a blessing to
most these days. Sigh. I've written about that as well, just in not as explicit
terms as you did :P Thanks for sharing! Lillian.
