Damn! I had forgotten to get my Prozac prescription refilled and I was completely out. I wouldn’t have even noticed, but when I was digging around in my purse the bottle fell out and rolled silently across the kitchen floor. Zuzu, my cat jumped on it, and was trying to claw the cap off. My doctor had warned me not to skip doses. I looked at the clock. I had just enough time to run down to Preston Drugs on 5th Street. I didn’t usually go there, but it was the closest place. I was assuming that they stayed open at least until nine. I had ten minutes. I grabbed the empty bottle and jumped in my Honda. Luckily, there was hardly any traffic and I sailed through the stoplights at Montford and Lorna. The Preston parking lot was empty. The front door to the store was locked. Shit, I was fucked. I walked around the side of the building and noticed two cars parked in the back. Perhaps the pharmacist was still there. I knocked on the door. At first no one came, but by the end of the second round of banging a striking dark haired woman in a cotton white druggist coat walked to the door. She cracked the door. “We’re closed,” she said. “I’m sorry to inconvenience you, but I forgot to get my refill earlier. Do you think you could help me out?” “What’s it for?” “Prozac.” “I’m not supposed to let anyone in after hours, but I guess it’s okay, just this once. Come on in,” she said. “Thank you. I really appreciate it.” I walked through the door and followed her through what appeared to be a stock room. We walked out into the florescent light of the store. To my surprise, a tall young blonde woman was sitting in front of the machine where customers could check their blood pressure. She looked up and smiled at me. “Hi, I’m Honey.” “Hello, my name’s Paula.” “I’m just going to go put this in the computer. Do you want a generic if we have it?” “It doesn’t matter. I’ve got insurance, so whatever’s easiest,” I said. “Okay,” she stuck out her hand, “by the way I’m Donna.” “Don’t you mean Dr. Hess?” laughed Honey. “Don’t mind her,” said Donna. “She’s my girlfriend and she’s gotten giddy from waiting so long on me to finish up.” She put her arm around Honey. “Yeah, I’ve checked my blood pressure a dozen times. I’m high and low!” She feigned an attack. “I think I need some medicine Sweetheart.” It was so refreshing to be around two lesbians who were open about their relationship and their affection for one another. They were both beautiful. Honey was more feminine looking, but Donna was exactly the kind of woman I was attracted to: beautiful but with that butch kind of energy. “I’m sorry to hold you up. Thanks a lot for doing this,” I said. “Hey, it’s the least I can do for family,” said Donna smiling. “Am I that obvious?” “No, not at all, but I’ve seen you at The Padded Cell. I even asked you to dance one time, but you turned me down,” said Donna. “I did?” I said. “I don’t remember, but I’m surprised I said no to you.” “Really!” Said Honey. “How could anyone say no to Grand Master Donna? I’ve never been able to.” “Very funny,” said Donna. “Are you from Seneca Paula?” “I’ve been here a couple of years. I moved here from Manhattan.” “Wow,” said Honey. “What a change!” “Yeah, but I |
