As I looked out of the car window, the scenery was obscured by the raindrops that had fallen on the window. It was a miserable day- bleak, dull and wet. The windows were slightly steamed up, as it was cold outside, and my boyfriend had the car heater on high. “You’re in a world of your own again Lyndsey,” I heard Mark say. I turned to look at him, sat next to me. “Can you blame me?” I asked, watching him. A smile tugged at his lips. “No. No- I suppose I can’t.” He glanced over at me, and caught my eye. “You’ll see her again,” he reassured me. “Will I?” I asked, returning to look out of the window. “Every time she comes, something goes wrong and the most I get is a hug.” “You will. I promise.” I smiled weakly. “We’ll see.” Six Months Later “Hey- Lyndsey! Come on!” I tore myself away from Mark and looked at Ann, who was already walking away, hand-in-hand with James. I smiled. “So impatient…” I muttered to Mark, still smiling. He looked down at me. I looked up at him, and he kissed me again, his arms wrapped loosely around my waist. One had lowered, wandering towards my buttocks, and I pulled back, reaching round to slap his hand away. He put on a sad face. “Not in public Mark.” He smiled. I had to smile back. I knew what he was thinking. We walked swiftly to catch Ann and James up. “Where we going?” I asked, walking by the side of Ann. She shrugged. “We could go to the park. Get some food from the shop, and have a sort of picnic on the grass if you want.” “Yeah, that’d be great!” She smiled at me, and we headed towards the supermarket. It was a glorious day- the sun was shinning brightly outside, the July heat relentless, made even more humid as there was no wind. I was wearing a halter-neck top; white, to try and keep cool. Thin denim jeans and sandals completed my look. I was still too warm. Walking into the air-conditioned store was a relief we were all in need of. We wandered down isles, picking out food that we could eat, and bottles of water and juices that we could drink. “Is that everything?” James asked, and Ann and I nodded at the same time. “Let’s go then!” Outside, the sun was glaring still, beating down on the ground. We headed towards the grassed area of the park, and lay down on jackets etc that we had brought with us from the car. I lay down, and Mark lay down next to me. He gave me my bottle of juice, and started rummaging in the plastic bag for a packet of crisps. Once he found what he was looking for, he turned over, and gave me a kiss. I touched my nose to his, silently asking for another kiss. He smiled |
