Sarah arrived, as instructed, in the company’s reception lobby at exactly 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon. The security guard checked her name on the list and sent her up to the governors’ floor. The pretty receptionist behind the big desk there said that Dr Jones’ PA would be around in a minute, asked her to sit and offered her a coffee. Opposite the desk there were two big, low leather sofas and a low table with a selection of the company’s literature carefully laid out. Sarah declined the coffee and waited on one of the sofas, as she had been trained, with her feet placed together, her thighs slightly apart, her back straight and her lips not completely closed. The PA kept her waiting like that for more than 20 minutes. The receptionist became increasingly agitated; Sarah assumed that being kept waiting was a rare event in this office. The girl reassured Sarah that she would be seen soon and offered to ring through again in case there was a problem. Sarah assured her that it wasn’t important, she didn’t mind waiting and was sure Dr Jones would see her when he was ready. When she did come, the PA was slight and neatly dressed but wearing very high heels. Efficient looking, as Sarah had expected, but with a sharper edge. When Sarah had first been told to come to see her lover at the company’s offices she had asked him if it would cause him difficulties. He had replied no, his PA had it all in hand, she booked all his appointments with his mistresses and was pleased to hear he had taken his exploration of S&M to a new phase. Sarah didn’t find this reassuring at all; she wondered just how involved the PA had been in these ‘explorations’. She had also wondered what he meant by ‘all in hand’ and why the PA felt it her business to be so pleased. Facing the PA in the reception area, she felt her stomach turn over; it was clear she meant to get very much involved now, if she hadn’t before. “Hello,” said the PA, holding out her hand, "I’m Yvonne, Dr Jones’ personal assistant." “Sarah,” said Sarah, standing up to shake the proffered hand. “Yes,” said Yvonne, “I know. Dr Jones and I have talked about you a lot.” “Oh,” said Sarah, following Yvonne as she turned away. “Great.” She thought she had said it too quietly for the PA to hear but Yvonne turned and gave her a very wide smile as she opened the security door to the offices. Sarah was led through an open plan office, into a corridor with a number of small meeting rooms leading off it and left in one of them with a curt “wait here.” Any trace of a smile had gone. There was nothing in the room but a single chair. Sarah looked around and saw a small security camera in one corner and knew better than to sit down. She stood still in the centre of the room with her hands by her sides and her eyes down. She had expected to be waiting for a while but Yvonne was back almost straight away. “They are ready for you now,” she said. They? Sarah had been expecting only her lover. “I just need to get you ready quickly. Bend over that chair for me.” Sarah bent over the chair and Yvonne pushed her legs apart, lifting her dress over her back. Sarah wore no underwear |
