It had been a long week for Simon. He was the lead website designer for Caux/Lollinger, one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the country. He had worked there for six years. When he started they had their fingers in too many pots: restaurants, business parks, hotels, and shopping centers. The varied industries caused a host of problems and lost revenue, so four years ago, they decided to streamline and focus on hotels. They used the Internet as their primary marketing tool, which made Simon’s job much more exciting but also intense. Each hotel had its own site with a web cam and a unique feature that allowed customers to print coupons from various restaurants or entertainment venues in the area that they could have validated when they checked in. As a kind of finder’s fee, Caux/Lollinger earned 3% of the total for each coupon their patrons redeemed. Simon adjusted the belt and moved his seat back, and opened the sunroof on his black Audi convertible. He was on his way to meet Alicia in Baltimore. It was a pretty good midpoint, about an hour for him from Washington and a little less for her to come down from Fallston. Fuck, it was good to be driving away from the traffic, smog, and noise of Washington. Baltimore was not much better, but at least it had the Chesapeake Bay. He and Alicia enjoyed having dinner at Satchmo’s in the Inner Harbor before walking back to The Birchmere Hotel for their session. They had met at a designer’s workshop last year in New York. She was promoting the expertise of Fundamentals, a web design business she started eight years ago. They specialized in flash applications and vector based programs with fast downloads. Alicia had earned quite a reputation in the industry as an innovator and visionary. It probably helped that she was strikingly beautiful, not in a conventional way; more in the way she carried herself and her voluptuous body. Never one to follow current fashion trends, Alicia looked more like Jane Russell than Kate Moss and she had plenty of admirers, both men and women. Her sexual energy radiated heat. Few were immune to her seductive curves. Simon would never forget the first time he saw her. She was giving a presentation on how to make web pages elegant and engaging without tacky blinking animation and a myriad of fonts. The auditorium was packed but most eyes were on her, not the screen. She was dressed in a black pull over dress with a scoop neck that showed her ample breast. Her skin was luminous and pale particularly against the black cashmere. Her shoulder length hair was shiny and dark and framed her beautiful oval face. Like many of the others, Simon was mesmerized. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. Sitting beside him was a stocky man, whom Simon thought looked like a wrestler. He ribbed Simon and said, “Check out Wonder Woman. Jesus, what a body!” Simon just smiled. After the presentation he found Alicia in her booth and told her how much he’d enjoyed her talk. “Thanks,” she said. Her smile was lovely and effortless. “I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’m really not good at that kind of thing. I’m more of a nuts and bolts kind of gal.” “You don’t look like a nuts and bolts kind of gal.” “I know. Most people think I work in a salon or a clothing store. It’s so weird to me.
