I was sick. And I was tired. I was sick and tired of working for a woman who had constant PMS, was a control freak, had penis envy, was fiercely protective of her status, and was impossible to please. And here it was, another Monday morning.
"We're staying late tonight," she barked, "to finish the quarterly report." The end of the quarter was four weeks away.
"I had plans tonight," I protested, to no avail.
"Your rating will suffer. Or maybe your job will be excessed," she threatened. "You don't want to lose your job, do you?" she asked with a sneer. She seemed to delight in tormenting me. Ugly, fat, and sour, she was truly miserable.
"No, Ms. Deitz," I replied.
My husband urged me to quit this job, or at least request a transfer away from this tyrant. But I wouldn't let her win. I'd fight her. I'd work around her or I'd go over her head to her boss.
There was one problem: Dietz's boss was even bitchier and more competitive yet. Mary Pabst was her name; in my thoughts I referred to her as Cruella DeVille. For a boss, she wasn't bad looking. She had a nice figure under her fine dresses. She was tall, long-legged, and had a flat tummy. Standing in her heels with her hair and makeup just right, she was alluring. Until you looked at her face. Serious and angry. Men wouldn't cross her and women hated her. Her underlings quivered when she spoke to them. All business and driven, she ruled by intimidation.
"We need to work harder. We've got to get this contract at all costs," Cruella thundered. Her subordinates lowered their eyes when she spoke, the men secretly admiring her legs, the women openly jealous.
A financial firm in Texas had sought our advice concerning their recapitalization. They had a portfolio full of toxic mortgage-related securities and wanted advice about the disposition of these assets. Our capital management advisory services had become renowned in the consulting industry. The Texans invited representatives of our company to their offices to meet with them. A fat contract was in the offing. The managers in our department were salivating over the dollars and prestige it would bring. And the bonuses they'd get.
"Our competition is on this like flies on honey. We've got to beat them. If we lose this, we could all be out of jobs," Cruella threatened.
"Adams, see me in my office," she ordered upon finishing her tirade.
Oh no. I'm fired. I rose and followed her to her office. She closed the door behind us.
"Sit down, Stephanie." I sat, concealing my resentment of always having to follow her orders in the office. I was sick and tired of her, too. Take your lousy job, you witch.
"How do you like working here, Adams?"
I hate my boss and I hate you, you shrew. Given the chance, I'd bring you down and stomp you like a cockroach. "I enjoy the competitive atmosphere and the opportunity it provides me to advance my career here," I replied.
"Don't bullshit me, Adams. Your boss is a jealous bitch and has hindered your career progression for too long." Her words fired out in a staccato. "Given half a reason I'd fire her ass."
Please do.
She leaned forward in her seat, a stern look on her face. "I want you at that meeting in Texas.

Very Interesting negotiations :-) Loved the word play in the last couple of paragraphs. Just shows though, negotiating
with men is a cunt of a job ....

Business Porn... I didn't think I could get off on all those negotiations but you won me over.
The last paragraphs are quite good. Especially liked the mixture of competition
and vindictiveness that suffused the whole story.
