I always dreamt of having him. I knew he was taken – I was taken. Somehow I always assumed it wouldn't ever happen. I knew that my chances were so slim they were almost non-existent. I knew all of this, but still pursued him. I knew what it could to do my marvellous relationship, but still made an effort. I loved the way he looked at me; I could feel his eyes trickling over my body, his desire meeting his uncertainty, forming such a lustrous gaze in his eyes. I knew he wanted it and I loved it, so I made sure I got that attention. I’d dress sexy for barbeques or parties. If I knew he was coming over I’d pretty myself up and smile at him longingly when he arrived. He must’ve known; he had to have known. Girls don’t gush if they don’t mean it... At least not this girl. My boyfriend came home from work on Friday with a huge smile on his face; I was confused as to what he might be smiling so brightly about, when he told me that there was a work barbeque that night. He got into the shower and I started thinking... What would I wear? How would I do my hair? I’m the type of person who likes everything to match up, from my head to my toes, and for this reason, I always get dressed first. So after spending time picking an outfit, I got dressed and hurriedly put my hair in different styles to see what would go best. Finally, I was ready, aimed to fire and dressed to please. We arrived a little late, and it was dark now, but I could see in the backyard that there was a huge fire. With a smile, I jumped out of my boyfriend’s truck and adjusted myself. My boyfriend came to my side and took me by the hand, and together we walked into the backyard, where the party was well on its way. I’d been told many times that I am “super-hot”, “smoking-hot”, “gorgeous” and other similar titles, by my boyfriend’s co-workers, his friends and his boss. It made me feel good, not to mention just knowing that I truly was the best looking of all the “girlfriends”. My boyfriend is a roofer; he works with dirty old men and dirty young men. He likes it that way, and I suppose I like it too. At almost every work party, my boyfriend immediately goes straight to his boss, chats him up and I follow. I watched his boss look at me. His eyes lingered over my body and he smiled. He asked Conor to roll a joint and Conor agreed, so he went back to the truck and I followed, delighted by what I’d seen. I think I managed to please him tonight. So we were sitting in the truck, and this time I was on the driver’s side. Conor liked to roll on the passenger side – it gave him more room. I was flaunting myself in front of him, keeping him distracted from the task at hand, when the door on my side opened. “Nicholyn, are you gonna let him roll that joint or what?” It was his boss. I blushed a little and sank into my seat. They talked and laughed about the people who were at the party, and then suddenly he turned to me. “So how’s Nicholyn doing?” I could feel it again: his eyes all over me. I loved it. I sat |
