David and Jill and I share a flat, and have been friends for some time. We originally met at college, but a few years have passed since then! Jill is a very attractive woman, but neither of us has ever been tempted in that direction. Usually, this was because she had someone else, or because we did, but partly it was just because she has always been a good friend, and trying to make a friend into a lover doesn't always work. As often as not, you end up losing both. So, for whatever reason, we have remained friends, and good friends at that. We have often consoled each other (platonically) after the breakup of a relationship, and when at a loose end there has often been someone to go out for a drink with, or to a film. Still, you couldn't ignore her slim figure, her big brown eyes, and her smooth shiny hair. There has been a sort of unwritten "hands off" rule, and the only time we bent it to the limit was when Jill had finished with a boyfriend and was feeling very low. She takes her relationships seriously, and doesn't sleep around: only very special men make it into her bed, and there have not been very many of those. On this particular Saturday evening Jill had been out shopping, perhaps consoling herself with a little retail therapy. David and I were both unattached at the time, and had had a pizza and a beer in front of a TV programme, when she came in. We exchanged greetings, and she told us that she had eaten out. "I wish I hadn't," she said. "It just made me feel even more lonely than before." David and I made space between us on the couch and patted the cushion. She flopped down and wriggled her shoulders. "I shouldn't spend so much. I think I pulled my arms out of their sockets." David is a physiotherapist, and does a great line in relaxing massage, which he has often used to help us unwind. He put his hands on her shoulders and began to massage them gently. She was wearing a thick jumper, and it began to get a bit caught up. "It would be easier without this," said David. "Maybe," said Jill, "but I'm not wearing a bra!" And she giggled. Now, the truth is that when you live in close quarters with somebody like this the usual rules of dress get a bit informal. I'm not saying that we would wander around naked or anything like that, but the occasional flash of nudity was not uncommon. Anyway, Jill pulled her jumper off over her head, treating me to a delightful flash of naked breasts, and then just tucked it around under her armpits to preserve the decencies. David continued with his massage for a minute, and then stopped. "Look," he said, "why don't you go in and lie down on your bed, and I'll get some massage oil and give you a proper relaxing back massage. You look like you need it." "Okay," said Jill, "that sounds lovely, but don't get any ideas." That giggle came again. "Tom can come and chaperone me," said David, and he got up to fetch the massage oil. Still holding her jumper around her breasts, Jill went into the bedroom. We followed her in a moment later, to find her lying face down on the bed, her chin on a pillow, and her back naked to the waist. |
